Daily management software: tier meetings and huddle boardsA short daily huddle that keeps every tier aligned.

Daily management software runs a lean daily management system on screen: tier boards, short huddles, KPIs and the problems escalated between levels. It replaces separate whiteboards with connected boards, so an issue raised on the floor can be tracked up the tiers and back.

The basics

What is daily management software?

Daily management software runs the boards and short meetings that keep teams focused on performance and problems every day. It links team boards across tiers, so issues can be escalated.

A common layout tracks safety, quality, delivery and cost, often shortened to SQDC. Each tier holds a short huddle, and problems a tier cannot solve move up the same day.

Leader standard work is part of the system. The Lean Enterprise Institute describes it as gemba walks, reflection, response to andons, accountability and mentoring.

Paper, spreadsheet or software?

A whiteboard at the work area is often the right start. It keeps the huddle where the work happens and costs almost nothing.

Software helps when teams span shifts or sites, when escalations need tracking across tiers, and when leaders need one view of open problems. A display at the work area keeps the huddle visual.

The routine it supports

  1. 1Tier 1 huddle reviews SQDC
  2. 2Log the problem
  3. 3Escalate to tier 2
  4. 4Tier 3 assigns an owner
  5. 5Answer returns to tier 1
  6. 6Leader checks at the gemba
Then the loop starts again, from the new standard.

Tiered meeting software: setting up the cascade

Map the tiers before you configure anything: which teams hold tier 1 huddles, which leaders meet at tier 2 and tier 3, and what each board shows. The daily management page explains the structure.

Stagger the meeting times so an issue raised at tier 1 reaches tier 2 and tier 3 the same morning. Tiered meeting software can then carry the issue up automatically instead of relying on someone to copy it.

Give each tier a standard agenda and a time limit. The software should make the agenda visible on the board, so the huddle stays short. The glossary entry on tiered meetings has more detail.

Connecting KPIs to digital huddle boards

KPIs are most useful when they arrive on the board without retyping. Ask which sources can feed the board directly, such as OEE software, quality systems and safety logs, and which will still need manual entry.

Use the same KPI definitions on every board that rolls up, so a tier 3 view adds up the tier 1 numbers correctly. The SQDC layout is a common starting point.

Leader standard work software

Some daily management tools also hold leader standard work: the routines supervisors and managers follow, such as attending huddles, gemba walks and checking open actions.

Look for scheduled checklists, a record of what was found, and a way to raise a finding as an action on the right board. Some sites run these checks on a kamishibai board, digital or physical, and route audit findings from 5S audit software.

Buying guide

How to choose Daily Management Software

Who it's for: Operations leaders running tiered daily meetings across shifts, areas or sites who want one connected view instead of whiteboards that do not talk to each other.

What to look for

Tiered boards

Boards for each tier (team, area, plant, business) that roll up issues automatically.

Escalation paths

Problems a team cannot solve move up a tier quickly, with the answer flowing back down.

Live KPIs

Safety, quality, delivery and cost metrics updated from source systems, not typed in before the meeting.

Fast meetings

A layout designed for a short stand-up on a large screen or tablet.

Common mistakes

  • Digitizing the board before the meeting rhythm and standard agenda are working.
  • Too many metrics per board, so meetings run long and nothing gets attention.
  • Escalating problems without closing the loop back to the team that raised them.

Questions to ask vendors

  1. 1How do issues escalate between tiers and get answered?
  2. 2Which data sources can feed the KPIs directly?
  3. 3Can boards be used on shared screens and phones?
  4. 4How do you support sites with different shift patterns?

FAQ

Daily Management Software: common questions

What is tiered daily management?
A cascade of short daily meetings, from frontline teams up to senior leaders, where performance is reviewed and problems are escalated quickly to the level that can solve them.
What metrics belong on a huddle board?
Usually a few measures across safety, quality, delivery and cost, plus open actions and problems. A short list keeps the meeting focused.
Should huddles be digital or physical?
Physical boards are simple and visible on the floor. Digital boards help when teams are spread out or when issues need to escalate across sites quickly.
What is leader standard work?
A defined routine for supervisors and managers. It typically includes gemba walks, reflection meetings, responding to andon calls, following up on actions and coaching people.
How long should a tier 1 huddle last?
Short enough to hold standing at the board every day. Many teams keep each topic brief and move problem solving outside the huddle.
What is the difference between tier 2 and tier 3 meetings?
Tier 2 usually brings supervisors or area leads together to review the tier 1 boards. Tier 3 brings department or plant managers together to handle what tier 2 could not solve.
What is a kamishibai board?
A board of cards, each holding a short audit or check, that leaders pick and complete on a schedule. It makes leader checks visible and shows which are done.
Can daily management software work across several sites?
Yes, if boards share KPI definitions and a common tier structure. Each site can keep its own boards and meeting times.
